What's Brewing This Weekend - 1/14 Edition
« on: January 12, 2011, 11:05:02 am »
New years is gone, college football is gone and now even the pros are rapidly waning. Whatever shall we do gentlemen and gentlewomen to while away the time?

After all this is a long weekend (at least for some of us).

Myself, I plan on climbing into an old dairy tank and shovel out 300-500 lbs of steaming spent grains. The brew, the brew is for ya'll! (Ok for my presentation at the AHA Conference, but same idea)

Just for giggles since I think more recipes should be posted here. THis is one possible recipe

For 7 barrels
347 lbs Pilsner Malt
18 lbs Flaked Wheat
18 lbs Sugar

Bittered with Magnum to ~19 IBUs
Finished with a Hallertaur at 10 minutes for an additional 3 IBUs

Sounds good, Drew! Hopefully, I'll be there to have a sample!

All of our citrus is ripe on the trees. I'm planning on brewing up a Tangelo infused Wheat this weekend. There was a great article in the June issue of Zymurgy about using fruit in beer and I've been planning this one ever since I read that issue. I'm hoping it turns out like Lost Coast's Tangerine Wheat.

Hopefully my BDS will be done fermenting and I'll be kegging and bottling it this weekend.

The ingredients I ordered should be on my doorstep when I get home tonight, so maybe Sunday I will brew the first of a few experiemental 2.5 gallon batches.  The first one up is a light/golden ale with Athanum, Hallertauer, and Cascade hops.  I'm also hoping my Amber Ale improves, so I will be drinking plenty of those.  At 2 weeks in the bottles they were still "green" and after 2 more days they improved.  By this weekend (week 3) I hope for even better results.

Kegging 10 gallons of APA Friday PM. Saving a thick slurry for 10 gallons of DIPA on Saturday. Pitching it cold  ;D Pyment from last weekend is chugging away as well. Cheers!!!
If Homebrew & BBQ aren't the answer, then you're askin' the wrong questions... Cheers!!!

Bottling up five gallons of belgian golden strong, racking my CAP for lagering, and getting the starter going for next weekend's brew.

Bottling an APA.  Also first family brew day.  Parents and brother coming to house to check it out. Of course the falcons start at 8 so we will have some ribs while watching them win!

We will be brewing a dunkel weisen. It seems to be most people's favorite so far.

I will be administering a BJCP exam Saturday.

My list of work around the house will preclude brewing Sunday.  Toilet tank leaks. I hate plumbing.

Making a starter for the Ofest that I'm brewing next weekend. Removing some labels from some bottles. All this is contingent on my recovery from a flu bug.  >:(

I have a 2-Liter starter of WY1450 on the stirplate for a Moose Drool clone.  I also have to bottle the Innkeeper (brewed on 1/1) and dry hop the 3-Hearted ale (brewed on 1/3).

Apparently I'm on a clone brewing kick.

I thought I had brewed my last batch until after Apr 15th, but it looks like the weather is going to warm up and I will have one last Saturday off. So i am going to brew my first repeat, a SNPA clone. I bottled it the first time, but I will keg it this time. Trying to get enough stored up to last me thru tax season.

A rainy week suddenly turned sunny and mild, so I'm doing a repeat of Fred Bonjour's late-hopped Amarillo APA and bumping it all the way up to 3.5 gallons (big for me :) ), plus bottling the first batch. Also serving my Peet's Decaf Oatmeal Stout with some Dungeness crab while the season is still upon us.
