The great sport of stock car racing ended 10 years ago today.

Tubercle enjoyed and loved it. Wish it could have lasted forever.

I thought Mario's other son was named Jeff, and he was a driver also.  Had some bad foot injuries at Indy.

John Andretti is the son of Aldo.  Aldo is Mario's twin brother.

I lived 50 miles from Daytona for 35 years.  Now I live 5,000 miles from Daytona.  That still takes some getting used to.  Especially during Speed Weeks...

BTW, I was there that day...

I still have a house 7 miles from the turn 4 tunnel to my driveway in Port Orange, I always hated Speed Weeks but couldn't wait for Bike Week and then Spring Break.... :D

I stand corrected, it is Jeff. Our kids go to the same school, we hang out at the occasional parent's night. Jeff is completely out of the racing business now.....

Yeah, I used to be big into NASCAR (with thick southern accent).  But when Dale Earnhardt died, I was saddened.  I was kind of disinterested in NASCAR by then anyway, as I'd grown up and "go fast, turn left" lost it's appeal. ;)

Yeah, 20+ yrs ago when it was the good ole boy show, I dug it. Somewhat similar to beer in the US, corporate America got their greedy hands on it and wrecked it, IMHO.

Kubica airbourne into wall 300Kph Montreal 2007
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtrzvwayniM

The speed measured when his car clipped the barrier was 300.13 km/h (186.49 mph), at a 75 degree angle, subjecting Kubica to an average deceleration of 28g. After data from the onboard accident data recorder had been analyzed it was found that he had been subjected to a peak G-force of 75 g. After a two race break he was back in car.
