Not sure on the freezer. I prefer an upright fridge for fermenting in( I use carboys). With a chest freezer, you're gonna have to hoist your buckets in and out. A little awkward and iffy for old backs... ;)

True, but I think you can get more buckets in a chest freezer than an upright of similar volume.

True. I rarely, if ever, have more than 10 gals in primary. Secondary can roll @ ambient in my basement year 'round.

I use 6 gallon buckets for primary and 5 gallon better bottles for secondary. Got an e-mail in to a used 18cu on Craigslist as we speak...It appears that's where the next pice of equipment will come from. That and one of these:

Stick a small space heater in the cooler for winter as it will be in the garage............ is that a good idea?

I just use a 40 watt lightbulb, shielded in a small metal coffee can, with a 120v muffin fan running all the time.

I don't think you would need a space heater, probably just a lightbulb would work. 100 watt or even 60.
