I swam with dolphins many years ago (in a  preserve with a caretaker nearby) and I will say that when you look in a dolphin's eyes there is a lot going on inside that head.  They like to bump and push you around but will immediately check to make sure you're okay.

I don't know about the poster who thinks the dolphins were trying to eat the dog.  I don't think hairy mammal is in their diet plan.
