St Bernardus Prior 8
« on: April 09, 2011, 07:43:04 am »
I bought a 4 pack of this beer and gotta mention it on our forum.

Good abbey ale and nice dark colors with dark fruit coming thru.
The head was not outstanding but still a good beer to try.

yes, mostly there or at Gator Beverage. just picked up a bottle of the Abt 12 at Wards a 1/2 hr ago. going to use it at our Hogtown Brewers meeting tonight. this month's meeting is at my house.... you really ought to come. if you can make it, the directions & a map are on our website at  http://www.hogtownbrewers.org/NextMeeting.cfm
we start with a potluck dinner at 6:30 followed by the meeting starting roughly 7:30

+1   I truly love the ABT 12, definitely one of my all time faves.

So, I saw it sitting there read the placard, and bought the one that seemed
to me that I would like based upon the placard....my bad.  I should have gotten
the 12.... :-\

I like all of their beers but the 12 is the best IMO.  8) It was so good that the first time I tried it that I went out and bought another one the next week. I want to brew one maybe sometime this year.

The St. Bernardus peeps used to brew what is now know as Westvleteren before the St. Sixtus peeps got their own brewery. The St. Bernardus Abt. 12 is modeled after the Westvleteren 12. If you can't find Westie 12, the Abt. 12 is the next best thing (some might say even better).

I won a 7-liter bottle of Abt 12 as the grand prize in a raffle.  It came in a nice guillotine-like wooden box.  I managed to save it for a year and break it out when our club won our big competition in 2010.  Shared it with a few dozen of my closest homebrew buds.  Nice beer.

I gave the empty bottle and box to a couple friends of mine.  He had Bob of St. Somewhere Brewing fill it with Saison (bottle conditioned) and had it as a celebration at their wedding.
