-1 on the RV hose. Mine gave me a weird chemical off-flavor that took forever to find because I broke the rule of only changing one thing at a time.

OK, let's be more specific.  When you say RV hose, was said hose medical/food grade vinyl?  I'm assuming there are various grades of "RV hose" but I'm concerned about this issue as well. Tempted to find 3/4 or 5/8" silicone hose build my own dammit.

When I got mine, I got it by the foot from HD and added the hose fittings at each end.  It doesn't look like the RV hose, it's clear with reinforcement running through it.

I love it, no off flavors even in Pils.  I would buy longer though, you can never go wrong with a longer hose.

Now let me ask, does anyone have a source for lead-free, food-grade garden hose fittings (valves, tees, etc.)?  I'm succumbing to media brainwashing and starting not to trust my faithful brass fittings...

If you are looking for something like, hard plumb it and leave it, CPVC is great. Dirt cheap, and you could train a monkey to put it in for you.

Yea...nothing like the aroma of a good garden hose coming from your beer. Yucchh 

White potable water hose should do the trick. I have a couple reels of them in my RV and plan to start using one with my new water filter.

From looking into this more around the net I've seen some systems where guys are using the "white HD or Lowes" RV & Boat medical grade potable water hose ($12.00) and slapping a Whirlpool House filter on it.  I like this idea.  Think what I'll do is this; when I get to the brewery I'll hook up the RV & Boat hose that I bought (still in the packaging) and fill a nice frosty glass full and take a taste.  If it tastes fine, no worries; proceed as planned.  If it's just a little bit funky, I'll invest in the filter.

I've always used a regular hose, never had a problem, just run some water through it first, no smell, tastes good.  You guys are making me paranoid.

Me, too.  No smell from my hose.  I've been using it for years.  It isn't the skinner vinyl looking type, though.

+1 As a matter of fact, I just bought then returned a "RV" hose because it smelled way too vinyly... The directions said to flush before using, the same thing I do with my current hose!

Now I'm torn.  Do I switch or not?  I haven't noticed any 'hose' type flavor or aroma in any of my beers.

I thought garden hoses leached lead, too?  Isn't that why you see the special vegetable and pet outdoor hoses?  Or perhaps that's just marketing FUD?

I'm thinking of picking up THIS hose.

It's lead free & has a bacteria/mold inhibitor. 

Good choice?  Thoughts?
