Sanitizer

I know that Star San is a no rinse sanitizer. If I don't rinse off my bottles, will it effect the conditioning of my beer? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Don't rinse them.  If you do then they won't be sanitized anymore.  ;)

The sanitizer works because organisms can't survive in such a low pH.  The beer will dilute the tiny amount of sanitizer stuck to the bottle so it won't be an issue.

Never had a problem with it.  I put them in the bucket for a couple minutes, and then hang them on my bottle tree to drain.

There is no need to rinse star san. I put my bottle in the dishwasher (recently run and clean, obviously) upside down to let them drain.

Very funny that I found this post so quickly.  I had the exact same question.

I bottled on Monday night and I did not rinse my bottles of the sanitizer because it is "no rinse."  However I got to thinking that not rinsing something like a spoon, fermenter, or tubing does not pose the same threat to 5 gallons as not rinsing a bottle that will only hold 12oz.  Afterward I got to worrying if not rinsing bottles was a bad idea because of the smaller volume of beer vs concentration of sanitizer residual left in the bottle.

It seems from the posts here that it should not be a problem.

In related news, bottling is a horrible process.

How long did it take you?

I would bet long enough to consider kegging.

I got the bottling process down to about 1:15.  I still wish I could keg but bottling doesn't bother me too much.

It took me about three hours from setup to full clean up.

I just started brewing again after a very long dry spell.  So my logistics and planning are pretty rusty.

Glad to see your back in it.

You should definitely be able to fine tune your process down from 3 hours.  That will make it less frustrating.

Was there anything in particular that took up alot of time?
