Shopping supplies
« on: April 03, 2011, 09:56:33 am »
Well I did a side job just to buy some grains/yeast/supplies to last the rest of the year.

4 sacks of grain:
Castle Pilsner
Franco Belges Pilsner
Crisp Maris Otter
Simpsons Golden Promise

Yeast
Wyeast 3463 Forbidden Fruit
Wyeast 1882 Thames Valley II
Wyeast 1968 London ESB
Wyeast 2633 Oktoberfest Blend
Wyeast 3739 Flanders Golden Ale
Wyeast 3522 Belgian Ardennes
Wyeast 3711 French Saison

Hops
Falconer's Flight Hop Pellets 8 oz.

Supplies
Calcium Chloride 1lb
Gypsum   1lb
Whirlflock

That should take me thur the year along with my other grains/hops/yeast,  fingers crossed its enough.

uthristy, what's the difference between the Castle and F-B pils that you need both?

Love the grain bill.

What's falconer's flight hops like?

I was at the excellent Free State Brewing Company in Lawrence KS today. They do a "Hopjack" ale from time to time that is the same malt bill and varying hop bills, usually a single variety. We walk in and, as usual, there are around 20 -30 people standing behind the bar seats and my wife gets Hopjack. I tasted it and guessed Columbus. When we snagged a seat and looked at the beer list, it was Falconer's Flight.

Not saying it was a ringer for Columbus as I kinda felt it was that or Simcoe, but maybe that gives you some idea of what it is like. Definitely American.

I've used FF on my last couple brews.  it's got the tropical fruit character of Citra, the dankness of Columbus, the tangerine of Amarillo, the lemon of Centennial...a very nice American style hop combo.

Each of these have apparently been "hand selected" to give you all of those flavors.  Yeah, hand selected...

Sounds mighty tasty nonetheless, aside from the silly marketing jargon.
