Getting started with kegging
« on: April 21, 2011, 01:57:26 pm »
Does this seem like a reasonably good deal to start with? I need kegs in time for a wedding on June 25th

Yes, that would be all you need to get started, and that is not a bad deal. Keggies usually run $40, bottle is $80, regulator $60.....that's $220 right there....

I agree....this is not bad at all, and if you have the extra $10, I recommend upgrading to the 10lb bottle....it will save you time, trips to the refiller, a few choice swear words once in a while, and $$ (filling 10lbs cost less than filling 5lbs twice).

regards.

My experience with Keg Connection was a good one.  I was originally going to go with the kit you're looking at but was talked into spending the extra money on a 2 faucet dual regulator kit, which really has worked out well.  I just bought the party faucets separately so I could use it for weddings and party's and whatnot.

Looks like a really good deal to me. I spent about 200 for my first set up with only one corny. Same regulator as the one listed.
+1 on the large CO2 tank suggestion as well.

I get my tax refund tomorrow so it's a go. and yes indeed on the bigger CO2 tank, turns out that with that extra 10 bucks I hit the free shipping level and total bill is actually 20 bucks less that with the smaller tank. Kegging here I come!

yes indeedy. unfortunatly the free shipping was too good to be true but still 269 shipped is okay by me. I brew my first batch destined for keg this weekend if all goes well. 5 gallon cali common with new zealand cascade. Gonna be a starter for a ten gallon batch in  a couple of weeks.

You are going to be amazed at how easy it is to keg beer vs bottling. I suggest breaking the kegs down when they arrive and clean them real good.

Good advice, Euge.

As noted elsewhere, I would recommend breaking them down and cleaning them one at a time.

Not all of the posts and poppets are interchangeable.  You might get lucky and get kegs of the same make.

My first batch of kegs was a hard lesson learned trying to match posts to kegs after a batch cleaning.

+1
I have purchased a few kegs from that supplier. They seem to be pretty clean when they arrive (No pop syrup smell), but I cleaned them again anyway. I have had to use the free o-ring set on most of them.

Another guy in my brew club is going to mentor me on all that jazz. I imagine I could figure it out myself but it is nice to have someone with the expertise already to help out.
