And just where might a cvertai Weaze look for said morels?
Weaze, where you are, I would look along waterways, under cottonwood trees, kind of open airy
areas, these would be for the yellow morels.  If you goto the mountains, look under the quaking
aspen trees in the boggy areas, these will most likely be black morel. Tho I have not experienced
the pleasure, in the mountains the year after a big fire, look for them in the burnt areas.

But where ever you look, be aware that these guys HIDE real well.

they do indeed hide well, but once you find one you will find others. It's like a switch in your brain goes click. Also you will need to clean them VERY well particularly if you find them in a burnt over area. all those little crevices hide so much grit.

Would a two minute soak in Starsan do just as well? I don't fear the foam at all.  ;D

alikocho can you put photos of those "straw" mushrooms on the site?

People swear to soak them overnight in salt water in the fridge and the grit is gone....
I remain skeptical and that is NOT my modus operandii.....but that is a major turn off
for me with the morel.  I mainly seek the black morel as it is less gritty in my locale.

I know them as Straw Mushrooms in the UK. In Russian, they are known as Opyata. I just looked them up and it seems that they are Honey Agaric.  They are safe and tasty. They pickled well.

This is what happens to you if you eat the wrong kind of mushroom.

Ended up going on a short hike on Sunday afternoon just to see how the vegetation is coming along.  I was surprised to see so much blooming and sprouting.  The oregon grape holly was just starting to bloom, the mint is about 3-4 inches tall, the cottonwoods are ever-so-starting to bud out, the raspberries/gooseberries/strawberries are all mostly leafed out and pushing blossoms, etc.

Found a couple mushrooms (unidentified gilly guys) but no morels, although I think within the next two weeks, we could start seeing them.

What I did find was another massive patch of wild hops.  Tons and tons of hops coming up everywhere.  Pretty excited about that.  I have 3 patches now that I know of that are all within 15 min of my house.  8)

Ok, who's got some recipes that feature morels?  So far I've done the French creamed morel app, a morel sauce I served over grilled lamb chops, and an omelet filling with gruyere and chives.

Gordon, I have always heard of the fiddlehead/morel combination and found this recipe
here I would consider trying. But I won't have the correct ingredients where I live.
