"Hey Bob.  When we brewed, did we ever cover the boil kettle?"

Jeff, IIRC I'm pretty sure we put on a cover albeit loosely using the IC. I still do the same thing now and I am a creature of habit.
My 5 gallon system has a notched lid and I've been brewing with that exclusively lately in the garage being it is "the windy season" here.

Been windy here as well.  Ready for that to stop!  I am brewing in the garage as well.  We have a 3 car, so the 3rd bay is now the brewery!

Just to chip in here, I brew outside and chill uncovered whether using an IC or CFC, but covered if using an ice bath or snowbank.
Is that a counter-pressure bottle filler in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?

I'd prefer to have the lid on...but the wort chiller is too tall and the lid on isn't feasible.

I always keep the lid on, but I usually brew under a lot of trees.  I'm sure the wort would cool faster without the lid, but having something fall or fly in would be unfortunate.
