Going to Scotland!
« on: May 10, 2011, 10:03:28 pm »
Well, maybe. I hope. One of my friends just got home from Ireland, my dream vacation. (she brought me a very nice pair of Guiness cufflinks from the brewery) Anyway, she asked me and Ms. Weaze to go to Scotland with her and her friend next year. I can't tell you how stoked I am! Not sure I will be able to save the coin, but you bet I'm gonna try. Might even get a real job!  :o
So, what breweries and pubs do I need to hit?

Are you kidding me?!  WHISKY!

Get yourself a copy of Michael Jackson's World Guide To Whisky and plan your itinerary from that.

I had thought about that, but I would really like to remember the trip.  ;D

might want to call Scotland now and tell them to start stockpiling bacon.

Scots make some great beer for sure, but they are the best at making whisky.  Single malt scotch is essentially distilled beer - the next logical step in the process.

If you don't go visit a least one distillery you will come to regret it.  For that matter, if you don't spend the whole trip visiting distilleries you will probably come to regret it!

You don't have to swallow all of the whisky you taste.

1.  Get yourself a bottle of Laphroaig.
2.  Become a Friend of Laphroaig.
3.  Go to Laphroaig and visit your plot of land while enjoying a free dram.

Not positive if it will happen, but I'm gonna give it hell. Some much whiskey, so little time. Who would have thought, I'd make it to a country where I look perfectly normal in a kilt!
Phil, I will for sure keep you posted. Would be sweet to meet you there. You'll be able to recognize me easy. I'll be the dude in the utility kilt, eating bacon, with three chicks.  ;D

+1 to the "Friend of laphroaig" thing. Also you should try a scotch egg. Weaz, surely you've heard of it?

Take a hard boiled egg
wrap it in sausage
bread it
deep fry it
die a few years earlier

I'm sure you could do a more hard-core version and wrap the sausage in a bacon weave before frying.

I Love a good Scotch egg.  I made some earlier this year with a 'twist'.  Instead of chicken eggs and pork sausage.  I used quail eggs and fresh ground (food processored) chicken (with honey-mustard dipping sauce):
