Chris at Iron Hill in Maple Shade, brewed "the Situation"  ---all pils malt and 100 IBUs.  Some joke about bold attitude and "a big nose."

I name all my beers.  Family and friends know the ones I brew frequently by name.  I try my best to come up with names that have a somewhat obscure, but personal reference.  Here are a few.

"Caer Daun" - a robust porter named for a fortress in Doncaster, England (I live on Doncaster Ave.)

"Shameless Seamus" - a dry stout session beer you can drink several of and still remain shameless, and Seamus is the Irish version of my name (James)

"B3" - a tripel named in honor of the Hammond B3 - it'll make your head spin like a Leslie

"Cuyahoga Cream Ale" - named for the infamous burning river here in Cleveland

"Adlerkralle Altbier" - Eagle Claw Altbier that I brew with my son each year - we're both Eagle Scouts

"42" - Let's just say that I really like Helles....

I used to name every one, but now that I'm near 400 batches I find I'm just not clever enough to come up with names for all of them.  I have quite a few named after pets, like "Nick Danger Porter" .  FWIW, most people don't know the real names of 2 of my most popular recipes.  The Rye IPA is officially "Wry Smile" and the BVIP is "Rudolph's Foggy Night".

• – I come up with a title every time I make something new.  
• – If It's a repeat with a tweek I add a 2, 3, A, B, etc. as a version describer. 
• – If it's a re-brew of a favorite, I just add the new date.   

The names aren't always clever, cutesy or poetic.  Sometimes it's just a style name with an adjective like "Ugly Alt."  Most of the time there is some kind of a story behind the beer or that something happens during the process that can spark a title like "Clocktoberfest" this beer was brewed at the 11th hour for an Oktoberfest, with the sub title, Cerevisi et tempus neminem manet (Latin for Beer and time wait for no man)

It's pretty easy finding a title. Best thing is, I don't have to worry about the title being a marketing success.

I've named a beer I'm going to brew on Saturday.

Rapture Pale Ale.  It's heavenly.

Now I need to come up with a recipe - it will probably just be my pale but I'm going to use Falconer's Flight.  I may add some carared and a touch of black malt, and call it Rapture Red.

Fair enough   Grains of Paradise are nice in some beers, but I want the pale to be about the hops since it's my first time using the Falconers.  I've never specifically had angelica, but from what I just read about it I think it might be good in a wit or other light wheat beer.
