I have to drive a good ways to get this for $10 a six-pack. Factor in fuel and... Anyway as a Brown ale fan I thought commercial just doesn't cut it. Pete's Wicked ale is a bit too sour and under-hopped for me, and it's made just across town.

Now Moose Drool. Oooweee! Very bold malty roasty dark chocolate flavors backed up by a decent hop bitterness. Balanced. Not sour. Is that a bit of dark dried fruit in there? Prunes? Caramel aroma. Hop aroma absent.

I'd love to get this on tap.

The folks at the BN talk to the brewmaster and eek out a recipe from him.  I think they were able to clone it.  The recipe can be found at:

I love the stuff, can only get it when I visit family in CO.  Their house yeast is the London ESB (Fuller's) strain.

Another Brown Ale that I liked when I vistied CO last year was Upslope Brewing's Brown Ale (just called Brown Ale).  It came in cans and was ~6.5% IIRC but it was really good...or maybe it was because of a long day on the slopes.

Sometimes we can even get it in cans, it makes a great horseshoe pitching or swimming pool beer.  It's definitely my favorite American brown ale.

When I was in Montana several years ago...I just couldn't stop drinking this fine beer especially when it's fresh. Great beer!

I'll vouch for the BN recipe.  Tasty stuff. 

Just made another version on Tuesday, but scaled the gravity down a tad (1.043 OG) and WAY upped the hops (45 IBU but most in last 15min).  Super session brown india ale?

The original is great outta the can in the backcountry.

First off, HILARIOUS!!!
  Second......When I was in Ohio, I heard a lot about Moose Drool, and wondered what the attraction was. When I got to Idaho, it was the first beer I bought. Now I know. Mosse Drool is awesome! I even use it in my chilli, and BBQ sauce.

It reminds me a little of Speakeasy's Prohibition Ale, which is hoppier but still in that caramel-y range.
