What's Brewing This Weekend - 6/10 Edition
« on: June 08, 2011, 11:05:59 am »
Anything brewing this weekend gents?

For me, it's all about the packaging, but maybe, just maybe I'll make up a keg of a switchelesque product for the Club Night.

In the meanwhile, this is about halfway through packaging for the NHC.

more helles for my FIL this friday evening.  going to try FWH + 10min noble additions only to see if I can restrain the hop bite and heighten the accentuation of malt character.

Leaving for NHC Saturday AM.  I've got the kegs filled and carbing, need to drop them off tomorrow for our driver.  So, no brewing this weekend :)

It's extra special. :)  We're going to do some touring around, hit a brewery or three, go to the beach and relax Sat-Mon.  SWMBO leaves Monday (something about kids, work, and GABF 2009 being enough beer events for the next 10 years).

I'll be heading to the T&C sometime shortly after lunch Monday, 2PM at the latest.  I'm going to meet up with another Seattle area guy (Antoch), see who else is around, and then find something to do Monday afternoon/evening.

You'll have a really tough time. In the meanwhile, I'm leaving LA weds morning with the aim of sliding into the T&C just in time for the start of the meeting!

I brewed a helles last night and pitched yeast this morning.  Did a decoction and that went well this time, I hit a nice beta rest temp.  Took me till midnight to get it mostly cool, then threw it in the fermenting fridge and it was 48F this morning.  Racked a German pils off the yeast and pitched the cake to the helles (WLP830).

Tonight I am going to make a cask conditioned ale with a 5L mini-keg.  I have a bitter that is done fermenting so I'll put 4L in the cask and add my priming sugar, gelatin and a little dry hops.  I don't think it'll be ready by this weekend, but I'll have the rest of the batch force-carbed to get me by.  This little keg should work well, the tapper mechanism is set about 3/4" above the bottom of the container and the bung already has a hard spile.

This weekend if I have time I'm going to brew an amber.  I got some WY1450 and the specialty malts to make Denny's amber recipe.

All you NHC attendees, have a good time!

Last weekend's partigyle with decoction kicked my ass and I've got those two plus a strawberry mead fermenting, so I'm taking a rare weekend off.

I'm sooooooo regretting not going to NHC right now...at least I have plenty of beer to cry into.

Finally!

Finished the long awaited Brutus 10 clone brewstand build last weekend and will test with water this weekend. I'll definitely post pics.

Then off to NHC next Wednesday a.m.  :)

Kegging 10g of SSOS(hydrometer sample was tasty!). Galaxy hops will be here Monday, brewing a single hop AIPA with 'em next week. Y'all behave yourselves in Cali...  ;)

P-Nut Ale ...basically an Amber Ale with natural un-salted peanut butter and molases added late in the boil . I never thought I would like it but our LHBS has it on tap and my wife tried it and loved it so she bought the kit.
