Widmer X-114 Rotator IPA
« on: June 13, 2011, 07:42:16 pm »
So Widmer recently dropped the underwhelming "Broken Halo" for a series of "seasonal" IPA's. I don't know any more than that and that the current release, "X-114 IPA" is incredible. This is a really outstanding beer. I have had it several times now, and it is just full of fruity, juicy, hop goodness - probably my favorite easy-to-find-anywhere beer right now. I just thought I should share.

X-114, btw, is named for the "experimental" hop used for flavor and aroma. If that's the chief hop I am tasting, it tastes like a mix between Nelson Sauvin and Summit.

The experimental hop at the time was x-114, it has now been renamed the hop we all know and love as Citra!  Hence the name ;D

Agreed. I took a sixer of the x-114 to a party a couple weeks ago and really enjoyed it. Big Citra flavor and aroma, not harshly bitter. I don't miss Broken Halo.

Try the new Nelson Imperial IPA if you can find it. Wow. Delicious.

I have to brew something with Nelson Sauvin hops now.

Just loaded 28 grams each of Nelson, Simcoe and Amarillo into my Pliny clone for dry hopping. You're welcome to stop by for a taste in a couple weeks :-D

I think is the first all citra beer I've had.  The flavor is . . . interesting.  It's not unpleasant at all, but it's a little distracting because it reminds me of something specific that I enjoy.  But not necessarily something I want to taste in my beer. ;)
