Maui Brewing Co. CoCoNut PorTeR

"Like hot chicks on the beach"

Eh. Don't get me wrong, it's a well-executed beer. Poured a nice 1.5 finger foam, nothing off about it, a typical porter. No coconut anywhere but perhaps I missed it in the aroma because I've got a stuffy nose. Paid 6,50 Eur for a single can - $8. Not worth it at that price - I've brewed stuff that tastes the same. If you can get it for cheaper, go for it, but I wasn't terribly impressed.

I can get it too. What I balk at is the $11 price tag for a four-pack.

Technically it's been shipped half-way around the world but it's not an import dammit. BTW the domestic craft brews are generally more expensive than imports per six-pack or even four-packs in my neck of the woods. But, I want to try the Maui Brewing Co IPA!

I got to get better at brewing... ;D

The only coconut I got was aroma... I was pretty disappointed with it... but the only reason I bought it was I could buy 1 can.

Its much better on draft than from the can.  Much more aroma, and the roast coconut comes out as you work your way down the glass.  The big swell IPA is excellent.

It comes from the next island over from me.  At $8/six-pack I still don't bother.  It's unremarkable.

Kona Brewing's "Pipeline Porter" was much better...

That might be why I have a hard time finding it! Did the brewery change names, or have I simply mis-identified this brew?

Widmer owns Kona and brews all Kona's bottled beers on the mainland.  All Kona's draft beers are brewed on Hawaii Island.

If you get the chance, try their Castaway IPA.  You gotta come to Hawaii to get it though (draft only).
