Got to Brush out the Chimney Pipe
« on: September 05, 2011, 08:20:33 am »
Fire Safety don't you know.  Winter she is a coming like a freight train.

Anyone else do their own swab job?  Lost the ability to hire it done.  The

Only outfit that does it for hire here will milk your funds dry with nickel and dime
Addendum (unnecessary) repairs.  Tho they say it is because of their liability...

Edit: Job fin...now almost ready for winter...drain water out of a couple things and good to go... ;D

i haven't fired mine up in a couple of years, but around this time of year in times past you could see flames shooting high above my chimney from my first fire of the year chimney cleaning  ;D (the easy and slightly scarier way)

Top Hattery. ;D

The weather just turned abruptly here. An unseasonable 90F and tonight it'll be in the 50's. Will be cool and dry for the week. I need to change my AC filter. :D

I've never heard winter referred to as a "she".  It's always been Old Man Winter to me.  So I think "he" is more appropriate in this case.  Winter can be like a bitter old man, but I sure like it.  Snow, gets dark early, cold; it's so tranquil.  Come home from work, get warm and cozy and have a beer or three.  Hibernate.  Hmmm, good name for a beer, Hibernation Ale.  But Great Divide already took the name!  Boo!  Well, they don't distribute to Iowa, so sorry for them.  I'm using it for a homebrew!
Anyway, on topic, I really wish I had a fire place...it'd make winter even more amazing than it already is.

Times..... they are a changing.
yep, now in this day and age, she can be so unpredictable
that even in Iowa in the years to come,
Winter will be known as She.

I used to have a straight steel pipe on the shop;
that baby would blow spruce tar sparks into to the night
blasting a prehistoric campfire out on to the milky way palette.

Hells yes.
Nice way to clean the shute

Shucks, that chimney now has a Top Hat,
after the fire.  :-[

I'm in the same boat. This year I'm swabing the pipe, can't afford the 3 bills to clean my chimney when I can do it in a afternoon. Better than a pipe junky can. I bet I can do a better job, seeeing I'm paranoid about fire. My life depends on how I clean this pipe. Sometimes you got to take resposibility.
