Recipe of the Week- Red Velvet- IBUs?
« on: July 22, 2011, 11:48:15 am »
Love the beer and cant wait to make it. After entering it into BeerSmith I show it with 97IBUs but recipe stats show 66IBUs. Any feedback would be great. Checked all settings and amounts/time/AAs. Using Rager as well.

Thanks
Heath

It went down to 78 in Tinseth. Still a little high but better. Do you know what is standard for the recipes for Zymurgy recipies? What that being said what should I use?

if you are going to use a published recipe, i wouldn't worry about the difference. just brew it and see how it tastes for your palate. too bitter or hoppy then cut back next time. you could also see how other beers taste to you with their published ibu.

Don't worry, be happy.

The beer is awesome.

When I check the recipes, I use Tinseth.  It's more accurate.

My guess would be 66 was measured or based on the brewery's experience.

All of the models overestimate higher IBU beers. Put in Vinnie's Pliny recipe into software and figure out how to get it to estimate the correct IBU number of about 90.
