Major,

If you look for the color try Caramunich II.
That will give you nice reddish color.

I might try that. I didn't really want a lot of raisin character though.

Will try and post pic soon. May be tomorrow though.

funny, I was just about to say that I just brewed my fest yesterday with a small amount of carared and it definitely had a red hue to it (though orangey-amber overall) but I also used  a similar amount of Caramunich II - now I don't know which caused it...

Looking pretty red.

If you do not want to have any taste from it try domestic C40 to C60.

I'll probably be ready to rack this thing already today or tomorrow. I think I way over pitched. Split two better bottles between WL500 and the Wyeast French saison strain. Regardless, I'll give an update once it is carbonated. It's been a long time since I used this much crystal malt.

Sounds like a tasty recipe with those yeasts. I'll be curious to see how far down that saison strain will take it with the crystal malt.

kegged this today - WLP500 yeast finished at 1.009. Fr. Saison yeast finished at 1.004. Both are pleasant beers, not sure which one I like best yet. I'll geta  better feel once they are carbbed up.

I brewed an Irish red ale a couple of years ago and put 1/2 pound of black patent on top of the mash when I stated sparging.  It turned the beer a beautiful copper red without any roast flavors.
