I can only base this on those I've had in the US from New York State (Ulster County and Westchester mostly), but yep, just as stinky.

Are they as stinky on that side of the pond as they are on this side?

You bet. I walked through a forest one day where there was a big patch of these things. You could smell them from 500 meters away.

A friend of mine tried to bring some from West Virginia to Orlando on an airplane.  The pilot made him take them off of the plane.  My friend ended up driving to Orlando instead.

Did he keep the ramps in the car, or strapped to the roof?  ;D

Did you get some rain while away on vacation? They'd need something like that right?
Bump here
We've gotten 0.4 inches of rain since September of 2010, but my daughter watered the garden while we were gone. It's rained all around us but not here, and the last 2 thunderstorms we had just started more fires in the hills outside of town.
Our tumbleweeds can grow 8' tall with or without rain.

I don't think so.  He didn't smell too good when he got back... :P

I'm still picking tomatoes and peppers. :D The tom plants are about done and since it's so freakin hot and no rain at all I can hardly keep up with the watering. Next year a drip system will be installed.

My tomato plants are doing great, just no tomatoes for a while.  But they're blooming again so as soon as we have cooler weather we should get tomatoes again.  We've got such a great commercial chile/veggie farm up the road I quit growing peppers.

Didn't plant it this spring, but it did bloom about 5 months ago. It was planted about 4 years back. The fruit is only about the size of a softball and a half, but what can you expect with only 3-4 hrs of sun light a day on a covered porch in a pot? Other than the pineapple have a bunch of herbs, a small lemon tree, a chocolate persimmon tree, and a jalapeno plant. I'm just about out of room!
