I brewed an alt yesterday and screwed up.  I was fly sparging and got busy and forgot to shut the valve from the HLT(and I was absolutely sober).  The first time I noticed was when the kettle began to run over.  So I took 3 gallons from the kettle and boiled it down to a quart, like I do my wee heavy.  So we'll see what happens with it
Sounds like an elegant solution that would work well for an Alt.
No brewing for me as I have to catch up from being gone last weekend.

I batch sparge about half the time, but I was in no hurry yesterday and had other things I was doing.  Batch sparging wouldn't have helped, I still would have left the valve open.

Working on a pair of drinking horns this weekend. Bovine horn for beer (500 ml), and a smallish antelope type horn (50 ml) for liquor and tasting.

Pics of the finished product would be great.  Do you treat the insides at all or does that wonderful cow horn flavor come through.  I've never drunk from a horn so  I know nothing, but I'll never forget the aroma of freshly trimmed horse hooves and it's the same material.

Yeah, pics! Got a buddy that makes uh, err, "tobacco" pipes from whitetail deer antlers. Cool.

Yes, I'll be coating the insides of them. and since I'm the forgetful type, I won't be doing it the traditional way which is to coat the inside with beeswax. (Knowing me, I'd leave them in the car on a hot summer day and have a nice waxy puddle in my car.) I consulted a couple of craftsmen a couple weeks ago at an SCA event who make and sell horns, and they recommended salad bowl finish from General Finishes. I will also be using this on the outside to give them a nice, glossy appearance. So far I've got the insides cleaned out and have the bovine horn sanded smooth. The antelope horn is not getting sanded on the outside. (Looks great the way it is.)

Here is what they look like so far.

Tonight I'm brewing an American-style black ale with all Horizon hops.  Thought about calling it Dark Helmet Ale.
