My aunt and uncle near Albany NY still have no power.  They're using their generator periodically.  They had a big tree come down, but it missed the house.

Power just came back on.  Daughter is on second day of cancelled school (how often does the first day of school get canceled? Probably the only day that the kids are actually looking forward to!).  Anyway, two days without power is not easy with two baby's and a six year old - especially living on well water.

Brewing equipment was esential - filled up empty kegs, buckets, and carboys.  Kids got a bath thanks to water heated in the  brew kettle.  5 gallon bottling bucket with a spigot at the bottom replaced the sink faucet in the kitchen.  Star San in a spray bottle was used extensively since hot water was at a premium...

Told the wife I need to buy more equipment ---- some day it could save our lives

Good news everyone! Power is back on here. Came on late last night after 3 days of darkness.

Flooding was bad here. I was just about on an island except for one road. I managed to get out Sunday night and actually made it into Manville through the backroads, which is one of the hardest hit areas. Spent a couple days there helping out friends and family, coming back home periodically to repair my home systems and run fridges and pumps off the inverter on my Jeep.

I'll post up some pictures in a minute. For the curious, check out Google. Note the picture of the Army/NG UniMog fording water up past the windshield and the two hard top Hummers that were lost. It was BAD. At least half a dozen houses in the valley collapsed, all of them were underwater, most up to nearly the second floor.

Katia probably won't be a problem, most models show a trough along the east coast kicking the storm out to sea. Of course it's a week out and things could change. What more people may need to watch is what's moving into the gulf, but at least Texas and Louisiana may get some rain out of it.

I've heard Kah-tee-uh on the news, and also Kat-chya.  Kat-chya seems to be preferred.

Katia probably won't be a problem, most models show a trough along the east coast kicking the storm out to sea.

Of course they don't mention that on the news, or else there is really no story.
