Kirin Ichiban is $6. The cheapest beer on the shelf.

I'm surprised they're not giving it away.

We are a hard crowd to please, that's for sure. But if I had the pleasure of stopping by your place Euge, and you opened me a Shiner Bock, I'd gladly accept it.  ;D

Have you tried Kirin?  A buck a can is price gouging.  Not wasting money is not cynicism and snobbery.

I discovered a few tall boys of Kirin in the back of our milk shelf the other day. Put one in the fridge. No particular rush to drink it. 1,50E per can, so yeah, $6 is wayyy outta line.

Reasonable palates can differ.  I like lighter beers for many a session.  I was on a big beer kick and a hoptastic run earlier on, but I have grown to like the "mediocre beers" that to my palate are nonetheless flavorful enough to justify consuming.  I make them regularly now and many of the commercial brands are suitable substitutes when my taps are empty.

Presently on tap:
Bo Knows Pils
Denny's RIPA
Jamil's Oktoberfest
Jamil's Oatmeal Stout

All are great tasting and none are Shiner or Newcastle clones. So, if I didn't have the Pils or Oktoberfest on tap when the mood hit for a lighter ale or lager, including a bock, I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a 12 pack of Shiner in cans or Newcastle in bottles.  Newcastle near me is just priced a few bucks more.

I wasn't impressed by Shiner Bock.  Perhaps it's good and just doesn't live up to they hype?

It's not a bock obviously, but beloved by many anyway. Just a caramelly lager. Mediocre? A bit better than that but not outstanding by any means. The can tastes completely different from the bottle. Can't explain why.

Al, I'd have gone for the Stone if they were the same price- but even Schaefer is an import in Mexico. ;)

Euge, nevest tasted Shaefer before haha, really!

I'm obviously talking about a market that was in San Diego and not in Mexico, is the advantage of living in the border and make a huge diference between th guys living in the south, with no chance of consuming no craft beer from here
So when I go to buy some groceries on the weekends I can take a six or twelve of beer

In the past I liked before reaching Duty free stores and carry Mexican beer such as Bohemia, xx lager for a cheaper price even in Mexico. I'm talking about a box of 24 bottles:  18 dlls Bohemia, Heineken 17 Dlls

I once paid the equivelent (with tip of course) of 10 USD for a bottle of corona. It was in the greek isles so it was for sure an import.
