Red Oak Brewery?
« on: September 01, 2011, 11:21:07 am »
Does anyone know if there beer is any good?  Mike?

My brother is thinking about getting me some, and of course the answer is yes.  But should it be a mixed six pack?  Or is it worth getting more?

Greetings from NC, Tom.  Red Oak is just down the road (50 miles) from me. The Amber Lager is ok but not fantastic.  I much prefer the Battlefield Bock (really a Schwarzbier).  Very smooth.  I think you can get a 12 pack sampler.  I haven't had the Hummingbird Helles though.

Pass - Battlefield is worth your time, otherwise, see beginning of this post ;)

Battlefield is actually a bock, but it is a bit on the roasty side. Is your brother local? He can do better...

The sell it at Total Wine for more than it is worth. For years they have had a very low pint price point and in bottles are charging out the wazoo. Nice guys, beautiful brewery, but their products are not something I would suggest anyone invest time to procure.

Tell him he can get growlers and bottles from a myriad of breweries in the Raleigh area. I don't know of a good bottle shop near Clayton, but Raleigh has several...a few new ones getting high marks in fact...Tasty Beverage Company 327 W. Davie St.
Raleigh - but the mecca is Sam's Quick Shop in Durham, NC.
