Sulphur smell from US-05?
« on: September 08, 2011, 11:51:14 am »
Anyone notice this smell out of this yeast?

I have it in a fridge to ferment...it smelled hoptastic the first 5 days, but the last few have been rotting eggs?  Just wondering if it is because of a closed fermentation chamber that the buildup is so evident?  FWIW, the ferment went well and is mostly done, no other signs of foul play.

Never had a sulfur smell with US-05 and I use it a lot.

Thanks, yea, me neither.

I better check the bins down below again for forgotten old goods. ::)
There has to be something lurking in that fridge.

I caught a whiff of sulphur from this yeast on an IPA I did recently. The beer turned out great.

How much sulfate are you adding to your water?  You might get that effect if too much is added.

Shucks, thanks for the thoughts fellas.

Sure enough, there was half a cabbage head in a ziplock in the left crisper. :-[
NASTY and goopy,  wow, that is gross. ::)
I really don't remember stashing that in there.

Duh, ummm, all is well here, although the smell lingers.
I am going to have to swear off multi use in the "fermentation chamber".
