Sanitize Vanilla Beans
« on: September 10, 2011, 08:57:14 am »
Will be doing Denny's Vanilla Bourbon Imperial Porter next month.  A local homebrew shop mentioned sanitizing the beans in grain alcohol.  Does anyone know if this is necessary?  Thanks.

You don't really need to sanitize the vanilla beans, at least I never do and I have never had a problem.  Do you sanitize hops when you dry hop?  Same concept.  If you place them in a bag or something, that needs to be sanitized, however.

I have never sanitized the vanilla beans and I've never had a problem from not sanitizing.
