Sixth Annual New England Regional Homebrew Competition Announced

Manchester, NH • September 12, 2011 — On Saturday, October 29th, Brew Free or Die (BFD) is hosting the Sixth Annual New England Regional Homebrew Competition. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the American Cancer Society.  This year our goal is to break our current record of $2,000, and to donate at least $2500 to the American Cancer Society.

Winners will be selected from what are expected to be more than 450 entries of homebrewed beer, cider and mead from across the country.  Last year, the United States and Canada were represented with 400 entries in all BJCP recognized categories.  Entries will be accepted, between September 23th and October 14th, with judging to be held at Martha’s Exchange in Nashua, NH on Saturday, October 29th, starting at 9am.

“This is a wonderful chance for homebrewers from the New England area to showcase their beer, cider and mead.  The quality of the beverages produced by the “non-professional” brewer is truly amazing.” said David Rosenbaum, President of Brew Free or Die and competition chairman.  “We are looking forward to the 6th Annual New England Regional being bigger and better than last year.  We are continuing the tradition of charity, and hope to beat last year’s contribution with help from our great sponsors, and from the entry fees.”

The 2011 New England Regional Homebrew Competition is sponsored by the site sponsor, Martha’s Exchange, as well as dozens of other sponsors, including Boston Beer Company, Sierra Nevada, Woodchuck Cider and Moonlight Meadery. The NERHBC is among the largest homebrewing competitions in New England, and is sanctioned by the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP).  The competition awards gold, silver and bronze medals in 28 style categories. Homebrewer of the Year (sponsored by Boston Beer Company), Cidermaker of the Year (Sponsored by Woodchuck Draft Cider) and Meadmaker of the Year (sponsored by Moonlight Meadery) honors, plus the Best of Show Award (sponsored by Boston Beer Company) are awarded to the top amateur brewers as determined through the competition.

Information about entering the competition, drop off locations, judging, stewarding, and sponsorship is available at http://www.bfd.org/NERHBC.  A complete list of winners will be posted on the competition website after the competition.

This year’s competition is being planned and run by club members from New Hampshire’s oldest homebrew club:

Brew Free or Die (BFD) is New Hampshire's first, and most active, homebrew club. BFD was started in January of 1991 by several home brewers, intent on establishing a homebrew club in New Hampshire to 'host' the American Homebrewers Association conference held in June of that year in Manchester. BFD's membership is currently over 100 members, representing all levels of experience and expertise.
