This is awesome!

I just went through this in establishing a club in Bristol.

I'm also organizing a homebrew competition in Bristol on September 3. Entries are open to all, so your club might like to send us a few entries....more details at http://www.bristolhomebrewcompetition.org.uk

Last night was our first meeting, and it was full of win! We had 11 people show up, including one guy who walked into the shop to buy some beer but ended up staying because he thought it'd be fun to try. Between us we have more than 20 batches under our belts, and a majority of the people present were all-grain brewers. We even had one guy whose very first batch ever was all-grain! Hardcore.

I was especially pleased that two people brought beers for us to sample (my flier didn't say anything about that) which is a really good sign :-)

Here are a few photos... I didn't think to get a group photo unfortunately, but that might have been a little weird anyway.

Belgian strong golden. Lots of alcohol in this one, needing body - but definitely drinkable. This was done by the guy on the left in the following photo, with a couple friends of his. He's the guy whose first batch was all-grain. Nice head retention, lacing, etc.

At left, "Pek," and at right, Stephen. Pek did the strong golden above.

Stephen's "La Fossoyeuse," or "grim reaper-ette," a good example of an English Brown Ale.

The weather was perfect. I took this on my walk home to the train. Really happy with how things worked out! I'm not sure when our next meeting will be, but I do know that I'm going to get everybody a logbook, because a major theme during the discussion of beer recipes was "I don't remember what I put in it."

Thoughts about a good idea for the next meeting? I'm going to hold a contest to name the club at the very least.

Excellent!

Maybe you might think about getting ideas for the next meeting from a forum or group email. See what multiple minds can storm up.

It appears the brewing and facial hair axiom does not apply in France.

Very cool to see this Phil, congrats on starting this up. Wish I were there to join in the fun. I lived in Paris from 1999 - 2003, and I remember well that every time I wanted to have a good beer on tap (that wasn't Guinness, anyway) I had to hop on the metro for many stops and at least one change before I could arrive. Very cool for you to be at the start of what I think will be a ground swell movement. They do love wine more than anything, but with Germany, Belgium, and Spain (one of Europe's largest brewing volumes by country) surrounding them, they can't resist forever!

And yeah, it's hard to live in Paris without having some facial hair. If you're a guy, anyway....

I'm organizing Paris' first ever (maybe?) homebrewer meeting but am not sure what to talk about. I figure a tasting or two of some recent beers, but what else could be done besides that? Any and all suggestions are welcome!

Since most people go to one store, see if the store could give you a gift certificate to give thru a drawing away at the meeting.  To enter the drawing all one would need is their name, email address and phone number.
