Black friday
« on: November 11, 2011, 04:28:51 pm »
I hope the mods don't consider this political, I think of it as pro-family, pro-sanity.

Lets all enjoy Thanksgiving and wait until Friday morning to let our shopping frenzy take over.

Man, I was working at Wal-Mart the year they started opening at 5 AM, and I thought *that* was absurd.

Funny, I just heard about Walmart opening at 10 pm on Thanksgiving and really wanted to start this thread.
Glad you beat me to it. Guess they want to edge Target out by a couple hours.

I personally think it is disgusting
and the whole American counsumerish holiday frenzee makes me sick.

I was seriously confused by the concept of pushing the opening back to 5 am.  I've never gone shopping on black friday, i had no idea stores opened as early as 5.  That seems crazy enough, let alone midnight.

5AM sounds plenty early doesn't it?  Midnight Thanksgiving night I'm gonna be passed out cold and Christmas shopping won't even be a consideration for a couple of weeks.  I may spend a few dollars(or not) but I'll do my shopping at normal hours with a normal level of stress.  Or on Christmas Eve

What they should do is have two weeks of sales and not try to cram it in all in one morning. It'd be busy but not hazardous. I already did my holiday shopping and won't go near the "stores" until next year unless I really need something.

I do most of my Christmas shopping from Boxing Day until New Years and stash it away in the closet till Christmas  The rest I do online throughout the year.

I wouldn't be caught dead within ten miles of a retail store on black Friday.

+1

You can save one heck of a lot of money by shopping post holiday. Eventhough there are some real great deals on BF...I'll pass. YMMV

I try to plan ahead and get anything I need - groceries, odds and ends for projects, etc - during the first part of the week so I don't even have to leave the yard on Black Friday. Ms. Tubercle usually has all the holiday shopping done by February like punatic.

My hats off to you buy ahead guys. I usually do most of my shopping the last couple days. This whole thing has gotten way out of hand.

That said I did get up early on a Black Friday a couple years ago to get a great deal on a M1 carbine. They only had 2 left at at the store, was going to buy both but the guy behind me really wanted one. I let him have it.

I try not to set foot in any retail store I don't have to.  Click, buy, and ship is more to my liking.  My wife and her mother usually hit up black friday sales the years we go to her parents for Thanksgiving but there is zero percent chance I would ever join them.
