We understand concerns about Coronavirus (COVID-19) are top of mind for our judges, stewards, and volunteers who plan to attend a National Homebrew Competition First Round judge center and we would like to take an opportunity to provide you with a few updates and resources.
The American Homebrewers Association continues to monitor the developments of the COVID-19 outbreak in each judge center area and is in close contact with the site organizers to ensure cleanliness and safety protocols for everyone involved. Most importantly, if you are not feeling well, please stay home! Currently, there are no plans to cancel or reschedule judging.
Currently, no federal restrictions are in place to prevent meetings and travel in the United States. However, misinformation—in the news, on social media and other channels—has led to some incorrect assumptions and premature calls for meeting cancellations in the U.S.
What you need to know about Coronavirus (COVID-19) & NHC
What measures are judge centers taking?
We are encouraging anyone who is not feeling well to stay home and not come judge or steward. We also are taking measures to ensure frequently contacted areas are disinfected regularly, hand sanitizer provided for volunteers, and have all staff consistently wash hands and cover their cough or sneeze.
Key facts from the World Health Organization:
Clean your hands regularly
Disinfect surfaces you touch often
Don’t touch your face
No need for a face mask if you are not sick
Avoid traveling if you have a fever or cough
Cough and sneeze into your elbow
If you feel unwell, stay home and call your doctor
Those over age 60, or with underlying conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, or lung disease are at higher risk for serious infection
Initial symptoms of COVID-19 are fever and dry cough, but not everyone has signs of infection
The American Homebrewers Association is committed to the health, safety, and well-being of all judges and stewards, and is working with our organizing teams to ensure extra attention is paid to cleanliness.
For additional questions, please contact email@example.com and we will respond as quickly as possible. You may also reach out to your specific judge center organizer for more specific information as well.
We thank you for your support and look forward to judging some world-class homebrew!
