NHC Open Enrollment & Placement Process Explained

Open enrollment for the 2019 National Homebrew Competition (NHC) is now open!

It is important to have an understanding of the competition before applying. Please take time to review the Rules & Regulations, Important Dates & Deadlines, and What’s New: 2019 NHC.

Apply using your AHA member number and the email address associated with your membership. The open-enrollment period ends January 29th at 3 p.m. Mountain Time.

Important Reminders

  • The NHC is open exclusively to American Homebrewers Association members. Ensure you’re up to date by renewing or join today!
  • To maximize your chances, select as many judge centers as you’re willing to ship to. Tip: choose all 13 first round judge centers to maximize your chances of getting into the competition.
  • All applications may be changed/updated up until the open-enrollment period closes.
  • Confirm your email subscription. All communication is via email including acceptance to the competition. If you are unsure, re-subscribe at the bottom of this page.
  • All applicants will be notified by February 15 with an alert indicating whether or not they’ve been accepted into the competition. Accepted entrants have 7 days from the date of notification to pay for their entries.
  • Entry requests are final after the open-enrollment period.

About the Open-Enrollment & Placement Process

The NHC uses an open-enrollment process where AHA members can apply to enter the competition. Filling out the open-enrollment form does not guarantee entry into the competition and does not require a money transaction. All applications, regardless of when they are placed, are treated equally in the system. The open-enrollment application closes on January 29 at 3 p.m. MT.

We try to honor every applicant’s preferred judge location and entry count, but we must also take into account the number of overall applicants, the total number of entries requested, and the demand on each judging location. Our goal is to allow as many AHA members as possible to enter the competition while creating a fair distribution of entries across all 13 of the NHC First Round judging centers.

We then notify applicants on being accepted into the competition. Accepted applicants have 7 days from the time of notification to pay for their entries (note: make sure you are subscribed to our emails by entering your email address at the bottom of this page). If payment is not received within 7 days, those applicants are removed from the competition and new applicants are added. We continue this process until the competition is full or until all applicants have had a chance to enter.

With an additional NHC First Round judge center in 2019, we anticipate all applicants to be accepted in the competition by February 15th.
