Daniel Reinholdt of Oak Park, IL, member of the Homebrewers Pride of the Southside, won a gold medal in Category #2: Pilsner during the 2014 National Homebrew Competition Final Round in Grand Rapids, MI. Reinholdt’s Pilsner was chosen as the best among 182 final round entries in the category.

    • 6.0 oz (170 g) acid malt
    • 1.0 oz (28 g) Hallertau Mittelfruh, 4% a.a. (60 min)
    • 1.0 oz (28 g) Northern Brewer, 9.6% a.a. (20 min)
    • 0.5 oz (14 g) Northern Brewer, 9.6% a.a. (20 min)
    • 3.5 oz (99 g) Hallertau Mittelfruh, 4% a.a. (10 min)
    • 1.63 oz (46 g) Czech Saaz, 3.2% a.a. (5 min)
    • 0.5 oz (14 g) Northern Brewer, 9.6% a.a. (5 min)
    • 2.0 oz (56 g) Hallertau Mittelfruh, 4% a.a. (0 min)
    • Wyeast 2007 Pilsen Lager yeast (starter)
    • 1 tsp Wyeast yeast nutrient (10 min)

    Directions

    1. Use half RO water. Mash grains at 150° F (66° C) for 90 minutes.
    2. Primary fermentation for 28 days at 50° F (10° C)
