Fight boredom with homebrewing!
Believe it or not, it’s pretty simple to take 4 ingredients—grains, hops, yeast, and water—and turn them into beer.
You don’t even have to leave your kitchen!
The Basics of Brewing
Making beer is similar to many culinary endeavors, like making soup or baking bread.
When making the liquid that is eventually fermented into beer, the homebrewer combines and boils various ingredients in a pot. If you’ve been to a brewery, you’ve likely smelled the sweet, bready hints of boiling wort (the term for not-yet-fermented beer).
Once the wort cools down to room temperature, yeast is added to kickstart fermentation. During the fermentation process, the yeast converts the sugary wort into alcohol.
The end result is delicious, homemade beer. There’s nothing better!
