My name is Damian Dobbs and I am nominating myself as a candidate for a Governing Committee member. I have been a home brewer since 2014. I started with cooking my first BIAB as an extract recipe and then from there, I said to myself; let me make my own recipes. I went through six months of putting together different batches that included: IPA, Porter, Ales and a Stout and bottling everything. I had so much beer, that my friends and colleagues didn’t have to purchase beer for a while. The good and bnad news was the criticism that I absorbed, took it and perfected everything along the way. This helped me a lot to hear what I could have done better.
It wasn’t until October 2017, after I retired from the Marine Corps after 20 years, and travelling to over 20 countries for both personal and operation reasons, that I had the opportunity to taste so many different beers from other cultures. From 2006, I held many different titles to lead over 300 Marines in different facets of life around the world, written and changed policies and orders to make a better environment and to work smarter, not harder.
Over the past year, I have been brewing more beer than ever (all grain) and competing and it is so much fun. Of 4 competitions in a year, the lowest I placed was 3rd, and that was an honor when your competing against other home brewers that have been creating such crafts for over 15 years and have more experience.
I currently and just became a member of the San Antonio Cerveceros Home brew club and compete as often as possible.
I have been part of many government committees, judging panels and I currently lead a team of Systems Engineers in an IT Company known as Rackspace (Yes, we have a beer group there and compete as well).
My intent is to work along side the other Governing Committee members to improve the process of the community and educate all members as often as I can with the help of others.
I thank you for your time and consideration as a possible candidate for the AHA.
Thank you for your time.
