I’m John Lee. I live in Queensbury, NY. Homebrewing is my passion, and I love every aspect of it., except cleaning. Creating a beer/cider/mead, the science behind it, the comraderie, and enjoying the finished product.
I am a life time AHA member, and an AMMA member. I was the president, and chief cat herder of the Saratoga Thoroughbrews. A club I ran from 2014 to 2019. I am a certified bjcp beer judge with a mead endorsement, with my sights set on cider.
I’m putting myself in for a few reasons;
- The northeast is underepresented. There are many homebrewers here and at the moment we have no voice on the governing comittee. I hope to change that.
- Theres more to fermenting and homebrewing than just beer. Beer is an amazing beverage and is the reason many, including myself, get onto the hobby, but there is more. Mead and cider are other fermented beverages to make and both have history that rivals beer. Theres also fermented foods, kombucha, vinegar. These are just a few of the possibilities that you can create on your own or with friends.
- I see homebrewing as a hobby in flux With the growth of craft beer, people are turning away from the hobby, for a few reasons. There’s a glut of great beer, why spend all day brewing if can grab some quickly. There’s a misconception that it takes all day to make a batch of beer. I. believe thats not the case. A wise man once said, make the best beer, with the least effort, while having the most fun possible.
- We have to introduce new people to homebrewing, and bring the OG home fermenters back. There is a wealth of untapped passion and knowledge that’s being lost.
