I would like to submit my candidacy for the American Homebrewers Association (AHA) Governing Committee. I have been an avid homebrewer since January 2014, shortly after receiving a homebrewing kit from my wife as a Christmas gift. Since then, I have completely immersed myself in the hobby as well as the homebrewing community.
While living in Kentucky, I joined my local homebrewing club, Brewers of Central Kentucky (BOCK), and shortly thereafter, I was elected as the club’s Treasurer. As Treasurer, I helped to increase the club’s membership by actively recruiting members.
At the time of my election, I was also the Homebrew Manager for the local homebrew store, Lexington Beerworks. As the Homebrew Manager, I was responsible for assisting with hiring, training, and supervising staff for the store, as well as teaching all of the homebrewing classes offered by the store, including Intro to Homebrewing, Advanced Brewing Techniques, and Intro to Winemaking.
Now that we have relocated to Michigan, I have become an active member of two local AHA registered homebrew clubs; Cass River Homebrew Club and Dead End Brewers. I was recently chosen as Vice President of Dead End Brewers. I am always eager to participate in those events which help introduce people to homebrewing as a hobby and shine a positive light on the homebrewing community. For example, I was asked by my local homebrew store if I would be willing to give an all-grain brewing demonstration as their “featured brewer”on National Learn to Homebrew Day on November 02, 2019. Of course, I was honored and eagerly accepted.
As a retired police officer, I am always looking for fulfilling ways to use my time, and acting as an AHA Governing Committee Member would fit that desire perfectly. Being retired, I have a rather flexible schedule, and can be available for most any situation which may arise. I would love the opportunity to help shape the future of the association and the future of homebrewing as a whole. I believe my large variety of experiences, including several years of homebrewing, managing a homebrew store, acting as treasurer of a large homebrew club, being a police officer, and serving in the US Marine Corps, will make me an asset to the team, as I possess a wide variety of knowledge and problem solving skills. I am eager to become a member of the team and fill any needs of the association.
