My name is Tony Ochsner. I have been actively homebrewing for 10 years. The journey started with a Christmas gift of a Mr. Beer brewing kit. Over the next few years I advanced my brewing and in early 2014 I opened Micro Homebrew, a local homebrew supply shop north of Seattle Washington.
Running the homebrew shop over the last 6 years has been a wonderful experience. My wife and I have met many special people and made some lasting friendships. I have attended quite a few homebrew conferences and look forward to the next one every year. I have won a few medals and had the good fortune to brew some of my recipes on commercial systems.
I am a Lifetime member of the American Homebrewers Association. I enjoy the benefits of being a member and do what I can to encourage other homebrewers to join as well. At the shop we have been big supporters of the AHA since we opened. Learn to Homebrew Day and Big Brew Day are a couple of our biggest events of the year. I am currently a member of the Greater Everett Brewers League and Cascade Brewers Guild and participate in many local homebrew competitions. I recently became a provisional BJCP judge and look forward to taking my tasting exam in January.
As much fun as we have running the homebrew shop, it has also showed me that more people are getting out of the hobby than are getting started. We are making a concerted effort at the homebrew shop to engage new brewers and get people into the hobby. We feel like having a robust growing group of people to brew with only makes the hobby more fun and rewarding.
The reason that I would like to be a member of the American Homebrewers Association Governing Committee is to help our hobby to grow. On the local level we are doing a great job of adding new brewers but that is just in our tiny little part of the country. I would like the opportunity to help homebrewing grow on a much bigger scale. I believe that being a part of the Governing Committee would allow me to bring my passion for growing our community to many more people.
Please vote for Tony Ochsner when choosing your next AHA Governing Committee members.
