Dear Alabama American Homebrewers Association, Brewers Association and Support Your Local Brewery Members:
Homebrewing is now legal in Alabama! On Thursday, May 9, Governor Robert Bentley signed the homebrew legalization bill HB9 into law. The new law went into effect immediately.
Thank you to all of you who called or emailed legislators and the Governor’s office on behalf of Alabama’s homebrewers. This could not have happened without your support.
Thanks also to the homebrewer leadership of Right to Brew who have been pushing this legislation for the last five years. Additionally, we wish to thank bill sponsors Representative Mac McCutcheon and Senator Bill Holtzclaw for supporting the state’s homebrewers and Governor Bentley for signing the bill.
Earlier this year, Mississippi passed a homebrew legalization bill that will go into effect on July 1, 2013, at which time homebrewing will finally be legal in all 50 states.
