With tax season coming to a close, don’t forget to file for your homebrew club! Homebrew clubs and other small exempt organizations should file Form 990-N, also known as an e-Postcard, by the fifteenth day of the fifth month after the close of your tax year. It sounds confusing, but it turns out it’s as simple as answering eight questions.
While there is no fee for failure to file, failure to file for three consecutive years will result in a loss of tax exempt status. So, if your club is registered with the IRS as a 501(c)7 Social Club, your club must file an IRS Form 990 or a Form 990N e-Postcard.

Questions on IRS Form 990N e-Postcard include:
- Employer identification number (EIN), also known as a Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN)
- Tax year
- Legal name and mailing address
- Any other names the organization uses
- Name and address of a principal officer
- Web site address if the organization has one
- Confirmation that the organization’s annual gross receipts are normally $25,000 or less
- If applicable, a statement that the organization has terminated or is terminating (going out of business)
