American Homebrewers Association announces keynote speaker for Homebrew Con 2019 in Providence, R.I.

Maine Beer Company cofounder Dan Kleban began his brewing career as many of his craft peers: as a homebrewer. What started as an occasional activity with a coworker when Kleban worked in a Portland law firm kicked into high gear when Dan teamed up with brother David.

The duo practiced a single recipe over and over, taking care to make each batch a little better than the last, until they’d reached their dream beer. One business plan later, Maine Beer Company opened its doors in 2009 as one of the nation’s first nanobreweries.

The Klebans have been growing Maine Beer Company for the past 10 years and just recently completed an expansion that increased the brewery’s production capacity and tasting room size. Much of this success is credited to Dan and his brother’s philosophy: do what’s right.

Not only does Maine Beer Company produce world-class beer but it also focuses on environmental stewardship, community engagement, and promoting a corporate culture focused on the well-being of its employees.

These days, Dan serves as the vice chair of the Brewers Association Board of Directors and is the past president of the Maine Brewers Guild. He also sits on the board of Wolfe’s Neck Center and the Friends of Katahdin Woods & Waters.
