Top o' the mornin' to ya! With St. Paddy's Day approaching, this Irish red ale from Amal Turczyn's book, A Year of Beer, is sure to be a perfect session beer for your St. Patrick's Day celebrations. This low- to medium-strength beer, has a buttery character, with a well-balanced maltiness and a round, fruity finish. Joe Gillian's Red will surely make St. Patrick proud, so make sure to brew a few kegs! Sláinte!

7 pounds (3.17 kg) British two-row malt
1/4 pound (0.12 kg) British 55° L crystal malt
1/4 pound (0.12 kg) British 80° L crystal malt
2 ounces (56.7 g) roasted barley
1 ounce (28.35 g) Fuggles hops, 4.4% a.a. (60 minutes)
3/4 ounce (21.26 g) Fuggles hops, 4.4% a.a. (30 minutes)
3/4 ounce (21.26 g) East Kent Goldings hops, 5.2% a.a. (5 minutes)
1 tsp gypsum added to mash water
Wyeast 1968 Special London ale yeast
force-carbonate in keg
Orginial Gravity: 1.050
FInishing Gravity: 1.010
Boiling time: 60 minutes
Primary Fermentation: 7 days at 68°F (20°C) in glass
Secondary Fermentation: 7 days at 65°F (18°C) in glass
Mash grains at 150°F (66°C) for 90 minutes.
