last sunday i was brewing my CAP and i was pondering a previous thread started by Denny aboug Bu:OG and sat down to read it over.  (couldn't find it though).  of course i had a big plate of red velvet cake and vanilla ice scream.  i ended up with a little too much cake and had to add ice cream.  so two questions: 1. what was the title to denny's thread so i can find it again and 2.  do you prefer ice cream heavy or cake heavy,  helpings of cake and ice cream?

Depends on they type of cake and flavor of ice cream. I prefer rich chocolate cake with just a little vanilla ice cream, but I like yellow cake to be saturated in a mush of half-melted chocolate ice cream, style guidelines bedamned

The key is to get the cake-ice cream mush to the right consistency, so that all the surfaces are wetted by ice cream but not to the point where the melting ice cream simply gives you soup. It should be roughly reminiscent of cement.

At our house you put ice cream on peach cobbler, not on cake.  Cake is served cold already-pie is served hot and the ice creams balances that heat nicely.

Balance is a function of the cake and ice cream varieties.  Each combination has its own proper ratio.

That said, without a doubt, to get true enjoyment from the cake and ice cream experience one must employ a cake fork.  I can't even fathom mashing away at it with a spoon.

You guys got the whole balance thing wrong.

To Ice Cream you add a big bold RIS,  in a glass of course.

Now that is balanced!!!

I usually like one or the other. Saturday night I went to the Stillhouse pub in Oregon City and they brought me a couple of brownies with chocolate drizzle and three medium scoops of vanilla ice cream for my birthday. I was already stuffed but it was soooo good. I think a more dense brownie goes better with ice cream than traditional cake.

I think Ben & Jerry's has a birthday cake ice cream. That's pretty much perfect. Otherwise gimme gimme a carval ice cream cake.

When I was a kid I always went to ben and jerry's for my birthday. They have ice cream cakes made with lots of ice cream and layers of brownie. that is balance. One of my treasured memories was being given the beater from the ice cream machine by Ben on my fourth or fifth birthday. This was back in the gas station days when there was only the one B&J's on bank street.

Later my mother worked at the waterbury factory and at that point balance meant trying to get 2 more pints of ice cream to fit in the freezer every night.
