Grape Juice (source request)
« on: February 20, 2012, 11:18:22 am »
Where do you guys source grape juice?
Wine kits at the lhbs?
online somewhere?
I've found 5 gal frozen pails for around $115 -- that seems pricey, maybe not though?

Thanks

That seems about right to me.  I don't know the quality of the juice though.

Living in WA, I get mine from grapes. ;)

The $63 shipping for a $115 bucket of juice is way too cost prohibitive...  :o

I'll look harder for a local source.  Unless someone knows of free shipping!

Some shops get those buckets by the pallet during harvest. Some require you to pre-order them. That should cut shipping down.

Well, I'll be participating in a buy-in fresh crush this fall through the lhbs but I wanted a head start to begin experimenting.  I'm not sure how that really differs from frozen must.  This is a whole new realm for me.

There numerous clubs that you can buy-in with and the get fresh grapes from California and the western slope of CO, i would try and find one these clubs. also both Beer at Home (Lakewood and Westminster) and the Brew Hut (near cherry creek reservoir in Aurora)  sell some kits and other ingredients
“Sometimes when I reflect back on all the beer I drank, I feel ashamed. Then I look into the glass and think about the workers in the brewery and all of their hopes and dreams. If I didn’t drink this beer, they might be out of work and their dreams would be shattered. Then I say to myself, “It is better that I drink this beer and let their dreams come true than be selfish and worry about my liver.

Nice prices and about what I've been led to expect for six gallons of wine.

I too get mine from the winery @ harvest time.  Delicato in Manteca, CA sells for like $3.15 a gallon.  Bring my own fermentor, & it's worth the gas for me to get there.
Beer...Now there's a temporary solution!

They just sell you the juice?  That's fantastic, and quite a deal!  I don't know of anything like that around here.

You have to go during "Juice Days".  Middle or last week in September usually.  They offer both red & white juice blends that are already pH balanced.  Add yeast & go - super easy.  No choice on varietals but for that price, I'm makin' most of the wine I drink.

I think 2 gallons would be more than enough to be all of the wine I drink in a year :)

How do they do the reds if they aren't also giving you the grapes?  If I knew of a place around here doing that I would go for it next harvest.

Dang, that's killer.  $3.15 a gallon?  Nice.

I'd have to drive a few hours to get over on the western slope for any wineries.  I've not heard of anything like that before, but it may very well be worth looking into.

There are two wineries in Estes Park, that grow some of their own  wine and also ship in form CA or the western slope.
