SNPA is one of the best pale ales out there- its the beer that made SN. I love drinking it for free at casinos. Beyond that I have not found anything of interest in their beer. I have been burned by stone too many times to blindly try their overpriced limited release beer, and haven't had the 11/11/11. If I were on a desert island and a beer plane crashed, I would rather it be stone than SN a thousand times over. Let it not go unnoted that Ruination was instrumental in N. Carolina changing it's ridiculous beer alcohol content laws(this was the beer loved by people who lobbied for the law reform as it was illegal there). Which has now paved the way for SN to set up shop in that state.

That statement does not ring completely true. What was instrumental in North Carolina changing it's laws was enough people finally bonding together in a grassroots effort to change the law. Stone did send some beer for a few events, but Stone did not even distribute in NC until late 2008 into 2009. The first meeting about changing the laws in NC happened at the All About Beer offices in Durham in February 2003 and there were about 35 of us there. At that time we didn't even call it Pop The Cap. One guy had previously put up a website about the current statutes and we (read as "I") had been posting about it in the homebrewing community since 1999.

So back to the point, Stone had little to do with the change of the alcohol laws in NC.

While neither would class as an IPA, neither New Glarus' Moon Man and Ale Asylum's Hopalicious will disappoint you.  Ale Asylum does make Ballistic, Satisfaction Jacksin, and Bedlam, but I haven't had the opportunity to try any of these yet. 

If there's one within any sort of reasonable driving distance, find yourself a Woodman's grocery store.  Very decent selection, and not just of cold beer.

I have had moon man and it is okay as a pale ale. Not great but okay. I have not had the hopalicious. I just had the hopdinger from Oso and was disappointed.

I have been to Woodman's many times and the selection is similar to festival. I finally found an amazing bottle shop in Green Bay. I can get good beer just very few made in Wisconsin that have the body and hops I want. Luckily I just brewed my own Imperial IPA today.

You could try Sand Creek brewing Wild Ride IPA or Rush River IPA. I think they call it boubljack IPA.

Have you had the New Glarus Thumbprint IIPA or Central Water Illumination?

IIPA will give any West Coast DIPA a run it's money, seriously. Their regular IPA is not even close. It it supposedly going to be brewed again and should be out April/May-ish. Comes in 4-packs with red foil tops. Woodmans will have it.

CW Illumination is off the charts bitter. May be the most overly crazy bitter beer I've ever had. I've heard this is in stores now. Also in 4 packs and carried by Woodmans.

Nothing I've found in WI is comparable to those two as far as DIPAs IMO. I do enjoy Lakefront IPA and lots from Ale Asylum especially Bedlam with it's delicious citra hops.

Thanks guys for the feedback. Since I originally posted I have gotten a hold of some Ale asylum and liked it. the New Glarus regular IPA was very dissapointing. I have not seen the thumb print so i will keep my eye out for it. I have had sand creek's wild ride.
