One More Time!
« on: January 19, 2013, 12:51:06 pm »
That last Noble Uber-Hopped lager was so good, I decided to do it again.  This time, a true Urquell on steroids.  For 10 gallons:

4oz Czech Saaz at 90
4oz at 45
4oz at 10
4oz for 30 minute hop stand

May have to add a little water to make up for absorbtion but I'm looking forward to it.

Sounds tasty to me! I don't know if your setup allows it, but on the last hoppy brew I did that needed topoff water I added the topoff water to my kettle after the initial racking to my fermenter. I essentially "sparged" the hop trub that was left in my kettle. I figured, why waste the hoppy goodness?

VERY good idea.  I'll have to try that on the next one.  I did end up having to add about 1.5G to this one....

IIRC, Charlie talks about that in NCJOHB.

Is the "New" really new?  Or is that the official title of the old (containing the old practices) book that's been out for years?

Actually NCJOHB was the second edition (from the early 90's I think). The current version is CJOHB 3rd edition from 2003.

I think 3rd edition is also "New" but I don't have the book near to confirm.

I had the original edition until someone failed to return it.  It did not have an index, which was corrected in the "new" version.

Did you save some for me? ;)  Your results have piqued my interest and with all the Mittelfrueh I have laying around, I may have to give this a try.

Hey Red!  I'll bottle one for you and bring it to NHC!

This has been a very satisfying experiment.  The uber late hopped Mittelfruh lager is on tap now and VERY tasty.  It keeps getting better.  Never had anything quite like it..... 8)

Give it a go and report back!
