Where have I been?
« on: March 21, 2014, 11:42:55 pm »
Dang I am peeved at Microsoft and the end of XP (RANT)! Anyone else?  My XP system barely opens
a webpage any more.  Guess it is time to puke money for a new system. Or battle the brain cells
to digest a new O.S.....

And dang my ole intestinal tract has staged a coup and a full fleged revolution. I am not
sure how this is going to combine with my beer brewing.  Not being able to consume my beer SUX.

(RANT)

Miss y'all and I will try to touch back to update if my system can keep me active on the www.  ???

Yeah I just bought a new computer at Costco and was happy to see it was loaded with Windows 7.  I thought I would be stuck with 8.

I've been wondering what the hell you'd been up to. Sorry to hear of further ailments Dave. Drop me a line.

Problem with 7 that I see, is the end of support (that we are soon to see with xp) in 2015.
vs windows 8 which is way further down the pike 2018-2020.

welcome back Vert! There is nothing worse tan Win 8. Almost makes it worth plopping down the money on a new MAC! ;)

Given that many enterprises are just finishing moving to 7, I'd take that 2015 with a huge grain of salt.

If I were in the business of selling operating systems and buying NASDAC stocks
from the perpetuation of my business, I would end the life cycle and make everyone
buy new stuff as often as I could!   It's just good biness

I for one am happy the end of XP from an IT support role.  For years I've been trying to get my bosses to accept a hardware refresh schedule and have always met with resistance.  We work with some pretty intensive CAD programs and all I hear is complaining about how slow things are.

Now with the retirement on XP, and the need to upgrade our Office installation to 2013 (which does not run on XP), I have in the past 6 months, purchased replacements for nearly 75% of my company's systems (about 75 systems).

The last time I hit a jackpot like this was Y2K.

The SO and kids got a new Windows 8 computer X-mas 2012.  I can count on one hand the number of times I've used thing. Why would they make such a non-intuitive shift in GUI. I can usually figure it out but it takes so long I'm always ticked off by the time I finish anything.   >:(

I went from Vista to 8 and actually really like 8. Once you get into the desktop it's all the same on a laptop. Instead of having to fish around in the list that popped up from the start button I can hit the windows button, see icons for the software I use the most or if I need something else I can just type in the name and windows will search it for me. It took some time to get used to the change but after a couple weeks I really learned to love that part of the GUI. There are a few things I don't like but I'd rather deal with the odd problem than go back to Vista with its instability and constant asking fifty times if I'm sure I want to open a program.

Glad to see you back. It's been a while. Hope you feel better. I've never used WIN 8 and after reading all of the negative reviews, I don't ever plan to go that route. I think my next move will be a Mac. I love my iPod and iPhone. My laptop is a Dell Latitude and does well with Windows 7 , but it took a while getting acclimated to it. I see a Mac laptop in my not so distant future.  :)

Stay well Dave!
