New Baby Sun Shower
« on: December 01, 2015, 08:14:36 pm »
My wife just had our second child (a daughter) yesterday. You know the saying, "When it rains it pours?". Well the last 24 hours has been a bit of a sun shower. My 2 year old son has been sick with a cold since thanksgiving and got into a coughing fit today and threw up like a boss all over his room.

I feel like I became a real dad today.

Congrats!

Be glad your son was blowing from both ends.

Been there, done that, got the T-shirt.

I have often said the worst thing about parenting is the perception of time.  It seems there is no escape and that it will never end - with all the responsibilities and constant attention...and then it does.

Please, if you can, borrow from your parent's perspective.  It really is a short time that they rely on you that much.  Find peace where you can in the mean time.

Congratulations. It's amazing how fast they grow up. My oldest turned 18 today.

My dad is 92, I'm 52. When I was 4 he had two in Vietnam, one learning to drive, and one wanting to learn to play catch. Plus two full time jobs and 100 head of beef. I look back and realize why he was such an impatient guy. At 92 he has nothing but patients now... my youngest is 28. My grandson is coming up on 4. Just enjoy all of it as best you can.

Congratulations Derek. I ditto what everyone else said about time. My son turns 25 next month and just got engaged. I turn 48 in February and wouldn't be surprised if I'm a grandfather by 50. It all seems lightning fast.

It takes the first bout of explosive vomiting and/or diarrhea to make you feel like you're really in the groove of the Dad thing. Congrats, Derek!

+1

My son was a master at projectile vomiting.  The smallest thing could set him off.  He grew out of it fairly quickly, thankfully.

yso191's comment is dead on though.

That puking son graduates this coming Spring with a degree in Civil Engineering.  His sisters are 15, 18 and 20 and it feels like yesterday they each just came home for the first time.

Soon enough mopping up the bedroom and cradling a crying child is replaced by the phone call that a car just got totaled but everyone is okay and then by "Dad, this is Elana..."   Time flies, enjoy it as much as you can.

Congratulations!!!

Paul
Where the heck are we going?  And what's with this hand basket?
