Why was the "I'm Sorry" thread deleted??
« on: August 13, 2010, 07:49:09 am »
I'd like to know why BrewBall's "I'm sorry" thread was deleted.

I also asked a question in that threat that I'm genuinely interested in knowing the answer to.  What constitutes political discussion?  Is it only when a republican is mentioned??

I'm all for having boundaries but I think that they should be enforced uniformly.

Also just deleting threads that have dessention in them doesn't seem right.

As far as apologetic threads go it was pretty f##king pathetic.  The original thread could have been well intended but had the potential to go political very quickly.

The internet is full of places you can discuss and argue politics (I can suggest a few if anybody needs).  Even other brew forums have "Garbage" forums.  If discussing non-brew related politics is that important those forums are a better fit.  I'm happy to be on a brew forum that gets rid of that junk and focuses on brewing.

so should all the food threads be deleted? I love those threads but they are not about brewing.  For that matter many of the threads even focus on commercial beers and not about brewing per se.

Lame troll attempt.  Probably some angry guy from Tech Talk.  Where's the ignore user option?

Edit: found it, under Profile -> Personal Message Options

If its a food + politics or commercial beer +politics thread it violates:

A place for discussion of not strictly beer related topics. Please keep it civil and no discussion of race, religion, or politics.

Otherwise...that's the point of an Off-Topic sub-forum.

Plenty of places on the WWW to discuss that stuff...  I'm not sure if the mod's have been one sided in the past, but I'd rather not see any of it.

Craigslist has a flagging system where the people can kill a thread. You don't have to wait around for a mod to do it. That would be a good addition to this board. I'd flag this thread.

I always liked the voting system where a thread can get voted below a threshold.  It's also a good way to see the best post of the forum easily.

narvin is right on with the Ignore User option, I always forget about that.

That's what the "report to moderator button" on the bottom right of each post is for.

Exactly. There are a lot of things that we, as mods and admins, let stand and just ignore. There are other things that are intended to cause divisiveness - that is exactly what is going on here. This forum was essentially being targeted.

It was off limits no matter what political party is involved.  It had the potential to degenerate quickly and it did.  The mod who removed it was absolutely correct in doing that.

I'll agree about the degeneration of the thread.  I would have rather seen this locked though.  I think the mod would say the same thing.  He sent me a pm and said the he mistakenly hit delete instead of lock.

Thanks for your understanding.  I just want to make it clear that "no politics" means "NO politics" whatever the point of view is.

Excluding AHA politics, of course. Different animal though.
