Best German Pilsner malt?
« on: January 15, 2020, 07:18:25 pm »
Does anyone have a favorite best Pilsner malt for making a German Pilsner?

Thanks
I am a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it.

Weyermann Barke Pilsner.

Barke is great for a Helles or a Bavarian lager.

Weyermann Pils is a good all around Pils Malt.

I made a Pilsner with Barke, and it tasted like a Pils Made around Munich. Residual sweetness and body.

For something like Jever Pils, try and find Durst Pils, as I can make a very dry Pils with that.

Best is up there in my book,  Weyermann is a close second and in a pinch, Avengard is pretty solid.

Another vote for Weyermann Barke. Recently, I have really been liking Mecca Grade Malts. The Pelton is their Pils malt.

I prefer Avengard for its malty flavor.  I’m enjoying a German Pilsner now that turned out wonderful.  However, it seems this malt exhibits a bit of a chill haze.  Perhaps a protein rest would be in order.

I too like Wyermann.  I have also used Durst in my Helles.

Here's a nice chart which compares Swaen malts to several others for cross reference.  Swaen makes some very good malts.

I've only ever used Bestmaltz pilsner. The first time came out so good I saw no reason to use anything else.

I went throoughu several brands of continental pils malt - Weyermann, Durst, Castle, and a couple others- before deciding that I preferred Best.

I’ll reserve judgement as I currently have a Bo Pils with Barke fermenting. First time using it.

I have a Sedoka (Sekoda? I can't remember) Czech Pils malt that I just got from my LHBS to try on a BoPils.  This weekend I intend to give it a try.

I purchased a 55# sack of Weyermanns floor malted pils. As soon as I'm done with brewery makeover I'll let you know!
Thoughts on anyones experience using Weyermanns floor mated pils?
